Description

This is what the sidewalk looks like in front of Patel brothers every single day. It is unacceptable that they are using this sidewalk to prevent pedestrians from moving freely and safely Why is it acceptable for them to storage these huge pallets on the sidewalk? Why don’t they put it inside their store? It doesn’t really add up..

Might the area's councilman want to get involved in speaking to his constituents?

They obtained business license by fraud, because they do not have mandatory private loading dock.

I request City complies with own ordinance and revokes business license for lack of a loading dock.

Jo, that would require the area's councilman to do work, which he has made clear on several occasions, in several public forums, he doesn't like to do. Plus, all of these businesses gave to his last campaign so he's not going to do anything to upset them, especially as he prepares to run for council again next year.

I request JC Health Department to order closure of this establishment for illegal storage of milk on public sidewalk.

Yes, milk…. And I am wondering if there is a reason why food isn’t going straight from the truck to the inside of the store? Is something else going on here where they need to keep food outside on pallets all day?

Not at all a defense of this business but I was just walking past there in the last hour and the milk is no longer outside so I'm not sure they are storing it on the sidewalk long term (unlike Big Bazar down the street and Apna Bazar on the Boulevard, where they definitely do store food items on the sidewalk all day).

In terms of the loading dock, I can't seem to find anywhere in the City ordinances where that is required. Could the person claiming that it's a requirement point me to the ordinance requiring a private loading dock because in an urban setting, a loading dock is impractical since buildings are typically being built to the lot line and there are no driveways?

  • Acknowledged HHS Inspector - Lawrence C (Verified Official)

    Thank you for this information.
I am forwarding this complaint to Chief REHS Inspector Gracia.
The establishment should not be blocking the sidewalk.
I do not know the length of time the product was left on the sidewalk, there are acceptable temperatures for perishables products.

A Jersey City Health Inspector will be speaking to the establishment owner/ manager
