Garlic Cheese Beer Bread Recipe (1)My mom used to make beer bread all the time and I always forget about this recipe. I was craving those Red Lobster rolls, although I don’t think I’ve ever even been to Red Lobster, so I whipped up this quick beer bread and added garlic powder and cheddar cheese. What’s not to love?

This beer bread recipe is so EASY and pretty much no fail. Those are my favorite. No fancy instruction, no fancy ingredients and it’s pretty easy to add any flavors you’re craving. If you’d rather not have a cheesy garlic beer bread, then try adding maybe garlic and kalamata olives.

My favorite way to eat this beer bread is to smear it with real butter and enjoy it with a bowl of hot soup or homemade chili. Or slice a piece to eat while I write this.

Can Beer Bread Make You Drunk?

No. The alcohol content of any beer you use will be removed during the baking process. The beer is basically giving the bread it’s robust flavor. But don’t worry, it’s not going to taste like beer either. It’s safe to give to your children and I’m positive they will love it!

I doubt there will be any beer bread left, but if there is, I’m going to make garlic cheese croutons. Big chunky ones. Doesn’t that sound delicious? Maybe that will motivate me to make a salad. I could pretend they’re those bite-size pretzels with a Beer Cheese Dip. YUM!

Garlic Cheese Beer Bread Recipe (4)

The batter is thick and fills a regular bread pan 3/4 of the way. This recipe makes one regular loaf.

Every time I make a quick bread, I remind myself to pick up a couple of new bread pans. This one has seen better days. I’d love one of these turquoise pans.

Can you Make Beer Bread with Hard Cider or Soda Pop?

Yes, just substitute your favorite carbonated drink instead of beer. Just like many recipes that use soda drinks in their recipes, I do know that diet soda will not work. Regular only.

Beer Bread with Garlic and Cheese

Yield: 8

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 45 minutes

Total Time: 55 minutes

Delicious and Easy!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 3 Tablespoon sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (12oz) bottle of beer
  • 2 Tablespoon butter - melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and prepare a regular loaf pan (9x5) with baking spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, add flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder, and salt. Stir it around to blend it together.
  3. Add shredded cheese and stir.
  4. Create a well in your dry ingredients and slowly pour the beer into the center. This always reminds me of a volcano.
  5. Mix with a wooden spoon to blend all ingredients well, then pour into your prepared bread pan.
  6. Bake for 35 - 45 min, or until it's pulling away from the sides and a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center.
  7. Drizzle melted butter over the top and allow to cool for 10 minutes or so.
  8. Before turning upside down, I run a butter knife around the edge to loosen the bread. Flip the pan over and gently jiggle until the bread pops out.
  9. Enjoy!
  10. Cool for about 10 minutes.

Notes

  • After many reviews, I have upped the garlic to 1 tablespoon instead of 1 teaspoon. Many have increased the amount of cheese to 1 1/2 Cups.
  • You can omit the garlic and cheese if you'd like plain beer bread.
  • Or try adding your own flavors. Add chives, or parsley to the melted butter for more color.
  • If you're using a bread machine, reviews have said to cook it a little over an hour.

FAQs

What beer makes the best beer bread? ›

Lighter beers, such as lagers, ales and pilsners, will give your bread a lighter color, and mild taste that just about everyone loves. Darker beers like stouts and porters make a darker-colored loaf and have a stronger beer flavor. Hoppy beers like IPAs will give your bread a more bitter taste.

Does cheesy garlic bread need to be refrigerated? ›

Storage. Garlic Bread is best stored at room temperature – no need to refrigerate. In fact, refrigeration is not recommended, as the bread can dry out quickly and become crusty and even stale. If you need to store the bread for an extended period of time, then freeze instead of refrigerate to preserve its integrity.

What is the best dark beer for beer bread? ›

Darker beer, like stouts and porters, will produce bread with more robust, pronounced flavors. Likewise, a blonde ale or pilsner will make a milder, lighter loaf.

What's good with beer bread? ›

Think brisket, chicken, ribs, steaks, pork loin – all pair wonderfully with a slice of beer bread. When you're trying to keep it lighter, pair beer bread with your favorite salad. We highly recommend Caesar salad!

Which beer makes the best beer cheese? ›

Quality cheddar cheese and a super-flavorful beer are both key to making this beer cheese sing. Make sure to choose a beer with a flavor you love, since you'll definitely taste it in the finished dip. I recommend a lager or an amber ale, but if you prefer a hoppier flavor, you could also opt for an IPA.

Does beer have to be warm for beer bread? ›

Use room temperature beer: This helps the bread rise and creates a better texture than cold beer. Don't over-mix: After adding the beer to the dry ingredients, mix enough until just incorporated and nothing more. Overworking the dough will create a very dense loaf.

What type of cheese for garlic bread? ›

Fresh Garlic: The fresher the better, minced yourself at home. Cheese: Parmesan and Mozzarella shredded/grated at home from a block is best for taste and texture.

Can you eat cheesy garlic bread the next day? ›

Garlic bread is best stored at room temperature and wrapped in foil for a couple of days. If you want to store your garlic bread for longer than that, it is best to freeze it. In the case of cheesy garlic bread, it is always best to freeze the bread, even if just for a couple of days.

Is it okay to eat out of date garlic bread? ›

In general, if the bread looks, smells, and tastes okay, it's often safe to eat a few days past the expiration date. However, always trust your senses and if you notice any mold, strange odor, or significant changes in texture, it's best to avoid eating it.

Can you use Budweiser for beer batter? ›

I use Budweiser. The beer batter works because of the alcohol and the CO2 in beer. Bitter flavours aren't really welcome there. For that effect, I recommend using carbonated water with vodka.

Why is my beer bread bitter? ›

Of course, the final flavor depends a lot on the type of beer you choose to use. Some beers, such as IPAs, may give the bread a more bitter taste. What is this? I tend to stick with darker beers for a richer, less sour flavor.

Why is my beer bread so dense? ›

Luckily, if you encounter this problem every time you break out the beer and the batter, there is an easy fix for your next loaf: Watch how much you're working it. Overworking the dough of your beer bread will affect the texture, causing it to turn from soft and chewy to tough and condensed.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), baked or simmered dishes that contain alcohol will retain 40% of the original amount after 15 minutes of cooking, 35% after 30 minutes and 25% after an hour. But there's no point at which all of the alcohol disappears.

What is the best beer to bake with? ›

Amber and brown ales tend to be less bitter than the alternatives and feature a nutty flavor. Because of this, these beers are often recommended for caramels, cookies, and pies. Light-colored beers have their place in baking, too. Lagers and Witbiers are used in lighter cakes and cookies.

What beers are best for beer batter? ›

Most are fair game for beer batter (Pilsner Urquell, Stella Artois, Modelo, and Firestone Pivo Pils are particularly nice), with the exception of Bohemian pilsner, which comes with a heavy dose of spices that can change the overall flavor of your dish. In a beer batter, pilsner is one of the more low-key options.

What kind of beer to use for Trader Joe's beer bread? ›

It's also the phrase you'll find gracing each box of Trader Joe's Beer Bread Mix. The flavor of the finished loaf really depends on what kind of beer you use: Go with a lager for a lighter profile, an IPA for a hearty, hoppy taste, or a stout for a rich result with a slightly darker finished product.

What kind of beer has the most brewers yeast? ›

The beers that are highest in brewer's yeast are porters, stouts, and IPAs. Beers that are high in alcohol or that have a hazy appearance also tend to use more yeast than other types of beer.
