Bone Broth Recipe - Redhead Can Decorate (2024)

Bone Broth 😯 ? What in the world is Julie doing with “Bone Broth”??? To be totally honest with you, I have been wanting to post about Bone Broth for years, but you know how time sneaks away. I promise this isn’t just some Halloween party idea…although it really does double as that too, and I will explain how. This bone broth is REAL bone broth made from chicken and the main reason I wanted to share this recipe with you is because it has many healing qualities when someone is ill with a cold/virus, or even chronically ill in your family. You know how chicken noodle soup has always been good for the soul & sick, well it turns out the broth is what really soothes (does it replace medicine, absolutely not). At least this is what I have concluded from my experiences. You see, I have a really really good reason for serving a hot cup of bone broth at our house. Let me explain…

Our oldest teen was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis 1.5 years ago after years of unexplained joint pain, skin rashes, and general exhaustion. She is now on a very intense treatment plan with a pediatric rheumatologist and we are doing everything we can to get her into medicated remission, and then hopefully remission. It has been a difficult ride, for all of us, especially our daughter so I don’t talk about it a lot. However, if I can help soothe someone that is ill, you can be darn sure I will share my experiences and tips as a Mom who has tried everything to help their child.

This recipe is my healthier version of “Bone Broth” and it is full of protein from the chicken. I chose to use chicken just out of preference, but I do know that bone broth can also be made with beef. Our teen loves chicken ( I mean REALLY LOVES CHICKEN), so this only made sense. I do know that many studies show that meat can exacerbate arthritis symptoms. We have tried avoiding different foods due to these studies and my honest opinion is that when our daughter was restricted it stressed her out so much that her symptoms increased! So, I am a firm believer that if you love meat, and you actually crave it, you should eat it and not worry about what all of the studies say. I’m going with my gut here guys, literally. No study is going to override what I have learned being a Mom for 18 years.

TIP: Our daughter enjoys drinking the bone broth on the way to school to help with morning belly.

So, with all of that being said, here is the easy delicious Bone Broth recipe. Keep in mind that you are using an entire chicken, so feel free to use all of the actual meat for other dishes during the week, or shred it into the bone broth. Either way works just great. This bone broth is obviously a perfect base for chicken soup and can be used instead of canned stock in all recipes.

Boo! Oh, wait…almost forgot. On a happy note, our daughter’s 18th birthday is at the end of October, so there’s no better time to serve real “Bone Broth” then at her birthday party that usually has a spooky Halloween theme. These skull glass jars are so cute! It really makes for a savory tasty drink at any Halloween party. Another fun idea would be to use a crock pot and keep the broth in there and make a “Bone Broth” sign complete with a ladle and paper to-go coffee cups. Teens and adults love broth, trust me.
